Tourist Info

The Picos de Europa in northern Spain constitutes the most outstanding limestone mountain area in Europe.

Many of its summits can only be reached after interesting route finding and scrambling. Dominating the massif is the Pica Urriellu (Naranjo de Bulness), the most amous mountain in Spain, and a must on every climber's tick list. We hope to crown the weeks climbing with an ascent of this lofty summit.

We will fly to either Bilbao or Oriedo, take a comfortable house in Potes (an old market town in the south-east of the region) and spend at least one night in a mountain refuge.

The main aim of this holiday will be an ascent of "Naranjo de Bulnes", the Matterhorn of Spain. The easiest route involves about 600ft mild vs rock on perfect limestone.

An absolute must for rock climbers who wish to pursue their sport to the summit of a wonderful peak. When you witness sunset on the impressive "orange" west face you relies where its' name was derived.
